Bancroft provides a variety of services for adults with autism and other developmental disabilities who reside in 12 community-based homes in Delaware.
Residential services are provided by Bancroft staff in all areas of daily living, including a rich variety of community activities. All persons served are involved in community employment or attend day programs offered by other providers. Each of the 12 group homes offers a large private bedroom for each person served, and each home also includes a suite for a live-in staff person. This allows for continuous presence of staff when the individuals are in the home.
The group homes are very large and beautifully furnished, and located in very nice neighborhoods. The staff members who live on-site generally stay in their positions longer than those in comparable programs without such live-in staff. They are there overnight in case of emergency, providing a greater sense of security for the persons served and their families. Many community activities are offered in these programs. The individuals served in the homes interact with each other often, contributing to very active social lives for the persons served.
Outcomes
Bancroft's adult residential programs provide individuals the opportunity
to increase their independence and to be as active as possible in the communities
in which they reside. Sixty-four percent of those served live in group homes
or apartments with three or fewer other individuals served. Eighty-five
percent live with four or fewer other individuals served.
