Bancroft holds a variety of fundraising events during the year that benefit programs and services. You can help make a difference by attending, sponsoring or making a contribution. Many corporations, businesses and civic organizations provide support by taking part in Bancroft’s wide range of sponsorship and underwriting opportunities. This year’s Bancroft Golf Tournament will help the organization mark two major milestones: the 125th anniversary of Bancroft, and the golf outing’s own 25th year. “It’s a very special time as these two celebrations converge,” says tournament organizer Hilda Bacon, “so we’re going to add some extra-special touches.”
For instance, golfers can take a step back in time at the June 2 event on a ‘heritage’ hole.
“Golfers will get to play the way people did 100 years ago,” says Bacon. “We’ll be supplying them with historic hickory-shaft clubs and ‘gutta percha’ balls. We’ll also have caddies dressed in turn-of-the-century ‘plus-four’ outfits.”
Another highlight: This year’s tournament will return to Tavistock Country Club, the prestigious Haddonfield-area course that was recently redesigned.
Event organizers expect to raise $75,000 from the outing, which will help fund the remodeling of a Bancroft group home for four women in Cherry Hill.
That initiative — named Project: Accessibility — is modeled after the TV show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and scheduled to begin mid-June.
“We’re enlisting both design professionals and volunteers to help us renovate the home,” says Bacon. “The plan is to make it completely accessible, and better able to meet the needs of the women who live there.”
