The Bancroft Schools offer comprehensive educational programs and services to students ages 3 to 21 who require specialized classroom instruction in order to address their individualized learning styles and abilities. Based on the needs of each student, a wide range of instructional supports, including related services, assistive technology, behavioral plans and nursing services are provided to assure that each student succeeds.
In addition to academic instruction, the educational programs focus on the development of communication and social skills for all students. Classroom and therapy staff utilize well-established strategies, such as community-based instruction, applied behavioral analysis, task analysis and incidental learning, in addition to individual and small group instruction. From ages 14 to 21, all students participate in hands-on vocational and job preparation training in a variety of areas, leading to the opportunity to train and work in the area of a student's strength and interest.
The Bancroft School staff work collaboratively with parents and school district personnel in the planning and implementation of each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). Routine communication with parents and local district staff is crucial to maintaining a partnership to provide each student with an education that will foster learning and independence, enabling each student to develop to his or her potential.
Bancroft's Center for Autism Research and Educational Services (CARES), offers intensive therapy based on the principles of applied behavior analysis for up to 40 hours a week in both in-home and classroom settings, based on each child's assessed needs. The focus of the program is to maximize each child's abilities through systematic and comprehensive skill-building. CARES concentrates on the development of cognitive, language and behavior skills, with an emphasis on functional communication.
