A program of Bancroft Rehabilitation Services
The Lindens is an innovative residential program that helps children and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and acquired brain injury overcome severe behavioral challenges. The program specializes in treating children whose behaviors have progressed to the point that they cannot take part in normal activities - such as typical family life, school, and community recreational and socialization opportunities.
At the Lindens, we use applied behavior analysis assessment and treatment methods, which have proven to be highly effective. These methods enable us to identify the specific causes of the problem behavior, which leads to more successful treatment.
The Lindens program uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes family members and professionals from a variety of disciplines focused upon the individual needs of each person in the program. Professionals with the following specialties may participate:
Our homelike setting is also recognized as the ideal type of environment to prepare individuals for their transition back to their family home, a community group home, or other less restrictive setting. Our staff teaches the children daily living and functional skills to further prepare them for less restrictive settings. Such training includes appropriate social behavior, communication, personal care, cooking, academic and vocational skills.
Most people treated in the Lindens experience substantial improvement in their behavior. In fact, 93 percent of individuals discharged from 2005 to 2008 averaged a 70% reduction in problem behavior. And, 98% of these individuals were discharged to more independent settings, resulting in lower costs of care. Of the individuals served during this time period, 90% were discharged within a year.
A range of "step-down" programs are also available at Bancroft. These programs are highly individualized, offering the supports and services each child needs in the least restrictive setting.
