Child and Youth Life Enrichment Programs and Activities
Children and youth served by Bancroft are provided a wide variety of opportunities for community involvement, personal growth and life enrichment. In the campus and community residential programs and the Bancroft Schools, students have the opportunity to participate in the same types of activities that typical children have, including:
- - School prom and dances
- - Visits to local sites, activities, and events such as zoos, sporting events, parks and malls
- - Special Olympics, including a wide range of sports and activities
- - The Bancroft Opera project, in which children create their own original opera with guidance from the renowned Metropolitan Opera Guild
- - Art, dance and music festivals
- - An international award-winning school Web site design team
- - Signing choir
- - Dance clubs
- - A band and a guitar group
- - Student council
- - Representation on Bancroft's Advisory Committee for Persons Served
The programs and activities afford children opportunities for community integration, development of skills such as self-advocacy and leadership, cultural arts enrichment, physical fitness and well-being, the generalization of skills to “real life” situations, and the chance to simply have fun.
