Bancroft NeuroHealth appoints new Chairman of the Board
Bancroft NeuroHealth’s Board of Trustees recently appointed Joseph C. Atkinson as its Chairman of the Board to succeed Raymond Welsh.
Atkinson joined the Bancroft Board of Trustees in April 2004 as Finance Committee Chairman and was instrumental in turning around what was then a financially troubled organization.
Atkinson, a principal in PricewaterhouseCoopers' Advisory Practice in Philadelphia, PA graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Finance. He serves as the US Operations Leader for the PricewaterhouseCoopers' Governance, Risk & Compliance practice.
He and his wife Laura Atkinson have been involved in Bancroft since their young daughter, Casey, first came to the organization for services in 2000. Laura serves on the Board’s Development Committee and Chairs Bancroft’s Pediatric Program Advisory Committee.
A Chalfont, PA resident, Atkinson currently serves on the Finance Committee of St. Jude’s Church in Chalfont and was a member of the Building Committee responsible for overseeing a multi-million dollar education center expansion. He was previously elected to the Chalfont Borough Council and served as Chairman of the Finance Committee and President of the Council. He remains active at Penn State, working as a member of the Advisory Board for the College of Information Sciences & Technology.
“Joe has always provided expert guidance and leadership as a Board member and we are extremely fortunate to have a man of his expertise and compassion to succeed Raymond Welsh as our new chairman,” said Toni Pergolin, Bancroft NeuroHealth president.
Welsh, one of the most effective leaders in Bancroft NeuroHealth’s history, has concluded his second term and will step down in accordance with term limit provisions in the corporate by-laws. Welsh is expected to return to the Bancroft Board next year.
“So many families, including my own, have felt the profound impact of Bancroft’s exceptional programs due to our outstanding leadership team and our talented and compassionate staff. The opportunity to serve this organization is a true privilege,” said Atkinson.
Founded in 1883, Bancroft NeuroHealth annually serves more than 1,200 children and adults with developmental disabilities, brain injuries and other neurological impairments. Based in Haddonfield, N.J., Bancroft has sites in Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem counties in New Jersey, and in Delaware, serving the needs of the entire tri-state region.
