05.15.12 ¦ Bancroft featured in new video on iPad app

The makers of “See. Touch. Learn.” – an educational program or “app” for iPads –recently asked Bancroft to appear in a video on their product.

Bancroft student Erin Smith starred in the two-minute piece, along with her teacher, Marjorie Cutler, and Bancroft assistive technology specialist Beth Greer. The video appears on HooplaHa.com, an independent website that focuses on positive news.

Bancroft’s technology experts have found See. Touch. Learn., made by BrainParade, to be an ideal app for teaching students a variety of word-recognition and communication skills.

04.16.12 ¦ Action News covers Bancroft's iPad workshops

Bancroft's iPad workshops are helping parents, educators and others unlock the benefits of this new technology for people with autism, brain injuries, and other intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Philadelphia's 6ABC-TV did a story on these workshops last week, showing how Bancroft is using the iPad to help people learn, communicate, and accomplish a wide range of tasks. When parents and educators know how the iPad works and which apps to choose, they can support their use in the home, classroom and community.

04.02.12 ¦ April is Autism Awareness Month

Rise in autism rates demands effective treatment for all

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced staggering new autism rates: 1 in 88 U.S. children are now diagnosed with the condition. In New Jersey, the incidence is even higher: 1 in 49 N.J. children are affected.

Given these skyrocketing rates, it is all the more essential that scientifically validated treatments are made available to the growing numbers of people who need them. Although there is no cure for autism, proven, effective treatments do exist, and must be accessible to all children and adults with autism spectrum disorders. These include intensive, highly individualized interventions based on the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA). ABA-based interventions are extremely effective for treating the core symptoms and related challenges of autism. It is important to begin ABA treatment as early as possible, for the best possible outcomes.

At Bancroft, we have a long history of providing such highly effective services. As a nonprofit organization, we are dedicated to helping as many people as possible, through both direct service and our many free resources for families and disabilities professionals.
