Haddonfield, NJ — Neuropsychologist Mary Brownsberger, Psy.D., has earned a major honor from the American Psychological Association.
The Doylestown resident recently received the "2011 Early Career Practice Award" from the APA's Division of Rehabilitation Psychology (Division 22). She works for both Bancroft Brain Injury Services, based in Haddonfield, N.J., and Associates for Counseling and Educational Services (ACES) in Doylestown, Pa.
The award is presented to clinicians who have made a significant contribution to the practice of rehabilitation psychology, and who have earned their doctorate degree within the past ten years. Rehabilitation psychology focuses on assisting people with brain injuries or illness in achieving optimal physical, psychological and interpersonal functioning.
In fact, it's been a big year for Dr. Brownsberger, who works primarily at Bancroft's Plainsboro, N.J., brain-injury program: She recently was elected to a three-year term as a member-at-large of Division 22's Executive Board, and in February earned her board certification in rehabilitation psychology.
The latter designation is uncommon, as only about 150 professionals nationally are certified in rehabilitation psychology.
Among her many contributions to her field, Dr. Brownsberger:
"Mary Brownsberger works tirelessly for the well-being of people with brain injuries and other disabilities," says Cynthia Boyer, Ph.D., Bancroft's senior clinical director of brain injury programs. "She is a wonderful asset to our organization, the people we serve and so many others."
