10.11.11 | Bancroft to launch continuing-education program for brain-injury professionals

New 'Heads-Up' webinar series to feature Bancroft clinical experts

Haddonfield, NJ — Bancroft is launching a continuing-education program to share its expertise in rehabilitation for people with acquired brain injuries.

Designed for case managers, social workers, rehabilitation therapists and other brain-injury professionals, sessions will be presented by clinical experts from Bancroft, a leading service-provider for people with neurological disabilities.

This series of monthly webinars, titled "Heads-Up," will provide participants with a convenient opportunity to learn – and earn continuing-education units (CEUs) – during their lunch hour. Unlike a traditional seminar, webinars are presented online and viewed via one's own computer.

"With more than 20 years of experience in brain-injury rehabilitation, we're pleased to be able to share our knowledge with other professionals," says Cynthia Boyer, Ph.D., senior clinical director of Bancroft Brain Injury Services. "Our clinical experts will offer new insights and practical advice about emerging trends and effective approaches in brain injury rehabilitation."

The first two webinars in Bancroft's new "Heads-Up" series are:

  1. Trends in Cognitive Rehabilitation, Wed. Oct. 19 from 12 – 1 pm
  2. Exercise and Effects on the Brain, Wed. Nov. 16 from 12 – 1 pm

The first webinar, Trends in Cognitive Rehabilitation, will teach about this systematic set of therapeutic services that improves cognitive functioning and participation in activities affected by difficulties with memory, organization, following directions, and other cognitive skills. Topics will include:

  1. How cognitive rehabilitation can help survivors of brain injury
  2. The scientific basis for cognitive rehabilitation
  3. Current treatment approaches used in cognitive rehabilitation

The second webinar, Exercise and Effects on the Brain, will address:

  1. Health benefits of exercise
  2. Types of exercise: strength training, balance training, pain management, range of motion
  3. Factors influencing progress: motivation, impulsivity, safety awareness
  4. Research on exercise and neuroplasticity – the brain's ability to reorganize itself and adapt to change.
