Bancroft Brain Injury Services will host three unique evenings of personal tales, triumphs, insights and special moments, at “Bancroft Unplugged: One world, many stories.”
The free events – scheduled for three sites in March, in celebration of Brain Injury Awareness Month – will feature brief autobiographical speeches by people with brain injuries.
“Bancroft Unplugged offers a great opportunity to better understand the issues people with brain injuries can face and the progress they can make,” says Cynthia Boyer, Ph.D., Bancroft’s senior clinical director of brain injury programs. “We expect to have three very touching and inspiring evenings.”
Bancroft Unplugged events will be held from 7 to 9 pm as follows:
Tues. March 15
Bancroft Brain Injury Services
1200 Route 70 W.
Brick, NJ 08724
Tues. March 22
Bancroft Brain Injury Services
666 Plainsboro Rd., Ste. 2000C
Plainsboro, NJ 08536
Mon. March 28
Cherry Hill Public Library
1100 Kings Highway North
Cherry Hill, NJ 08034
Each person’s speech represents the culmination of many months of rehabilitation. In fact, preparation for the evening is, in itself, a key component of the speakers’ rehab. The speeches tap skills gained through cognitive, speech and occupational therapy, among others.
“This is an opportunity for people to convey how hard they have worked to overcome obstacles that many had never dreamed of,” explains Bancroft neuropsychology fellow Zachary Eakman, Psy.D., who’s coordinating the event with staff member Janine Gardner. “It’s very motivating to the speakers, the staff, and others in the program.”
Brief receptions will be held before and after the speeches, and light refreshments will be served.
Advance registration is requested. Contact Lynn Tomaio at (856) 616-6454 or email ltomaio@bnh.org.
