Getting Started

We understand that finding the right services for your child or student can be complex and sometimes challenging. Our admissions specialists are trained to help families and school districts assess a child’s unique needs and help find the best options to position them for success.

When you call, our team will work with you to understand your child, your journey, and help you gain access to the expert services that Bancroft offers. Our goal is to find the right services for your child and to provide hope for their future.

Enrollment for Special Education Schools

In many cases, parents can start the conversation with their school before or after speaking with Bancroft. Alternatively, parents may be referred to Bancroft by the school’s child study team or case manager.

We will ask for the School District to send a “Referral Packet” that includes information needed before the child starts.

  • Child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • All current evaluations
  • Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) if one exists
  • Any data collection on behavior

Referrals for Residential Placement

The decision to choose residential services for your child can be a difficult one. Whether you know that your child needs residential care or you are just exploring options, the Bancroft admissions team will take the time to learn about your child and his or her unique needs to help find the best care that will unlock their true potential.

Bancroft offers multiple levels of residential programs including The Lindens Neurobehavioral Program, campus residents, and residences in the community.

Frequently asked questions

Yes! We provide residential services for children from across the country. For The Bancroft School and Preschool & Early Education Program, transportation to and from school and a referral from your home district are needed. 

Our residential programs treat children aged 5-21 who have an autism or intellectual/developmental diagnosis with an IQ of less than 70. Our Preschool & Early Education Program supports children ages 3-11 and The Bancroft School is for children ages 11-21.

Traditional health insurance plans do not typically cover our services. Admission Coordinators are available to you to assist with navigating funding options. Our education programs (Preschool & Early Education Program and The Bancroft School) will be funded through your home school district.

In New Jersey, we work with NJ Children’s System of Care. In other states we work with funders including as PA-Magellan, Community Behavioral Health, various Medicaid providers and PerformCare, as well as numerous school districts. 

Our residential programs are designed to be short term: 18-24 months, depending on the child’s progress, goals and funding source.

For our Residential Services:

  • Psychiatric and/or Psychological Assessment (including diagnosis and IQ)
  • Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Medical Documents (current medication, medical diagnosis). 
 

For the Preschool & Early Education Program or The Bancroft School, your home school district will be able to provide the proper referral forms. You can contact our admissions team for more information.
