(Cherry Hill, N.J.) — Bancroft, one of New Jersey’s largest nonprofit organizations, raised more than $510,000  to support programs and services for children and adults with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities and brain injuries during the 26th annual Butterfly Ball. More than 450 people attended the event on Saturday, April 6, at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia.

President & CEO Toni Pergolin speaks.

“Supporting Bancroft through events like this makes a direct impact on those we serve,” said Toni Pergolin, Bancroft President and Chief Executive Officer. “The generosity of our donors and supporters throughout the year, both financially and through volunteer efforts, makes change and progress possible for each person supported, and truly helps create a more inclusive world.”

New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney was among those honored at the gala, receiving Bancroft’s inaugural One World Award for his work to promote inclusion and support the special needs community both in his personal life and in the legislature. Also recognized were Dur-a-Flex, Inc., for its corporate philanthropy, and Dolly and Mitch Kowal of Merchantville, N.J., whose daughter Casey resides at Bancroft’s Lakeside campus in Mullica Hill.

“As parents of a child with autism, we are so grateful for the support she has received from Bancroft. We know the importance of giving back, and we thank all of the donors for truly making an impact on our daughter’s life, and ours,” said Mitch Kowal. (Learn more about the Kowal Family here)

Among the attendees was former Philadelphia Flyer Brian Propp, a stroke survivor who now advocates for the brain injury community and works closely with Bancroft NeuroRehab, Bancroft’s neurological rehabilitation service line.

The Butterfly Ball is Bancroft’s signature fundraiser, raising money that supports educational, social and recreational programs and opportunities to allow individuals with diverse challenges maximize their potential.
