Bancroft’s Delaware Residential Program offers more independent, supported living to adults with autism and other intellectual or developmental disabilities who require little staff support in day-to-day activities.
Located in Wilmington and Newark, Delaware, about an hour south of Philadelphia, apartments, townhomes and condominiums allow the individual to strike their own balance of privacy and time spent together with housemates, many of whom become friends for life.
Each residence offers private bedrooms, a full kitchen and common areas for relaxation and socialization with housemates.
Residents typically share in daily responsibilities and household chores. Most take part in a structured day program or paid employment during the week. On nights and weekends, they may opt to take part in group or individual recreation and leisure activities as they choose. Residents are encouraged to navigate the community independently.
Staff members maintain office space close by, checking in with residents on a regular basis to ensure their needs are being met.
Staff often assist with life skills such as:
They may also provide companionship, help facilitate leisure activities and join in celebrating life’s many milestones.
