On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will experience an eclipse of the sun, whereby the moon covers the sun.
Specifically, in the Greater Philadelphia area, we will experience a partial solar eclipse. The partial solar eclipse will occur approximately 2:44 PM Monday, but the event has time span of 1:20 PM – 4 PM (as the moon crosses the sun’s path).

Although this is an interesting and rare event, we urge you to take safety precautions. For your safety and the safety of anyone in your care, please do not look directly at the sun during this time.
The only safe way to look directly at the eclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” or hand-held solar viewers. CLICK HERE for NASA-approved safety information.
