A Path Forward for Families in Crisis
The Lindens is a highly effective residential program helping children and adolescents ages 5-21 overcome acute behavioral challenges due to severe autism or an intellectual or developmental disability.
Since 1994, The Lindens Neurobehavioral program has been a trusted resource for families who have a child in crisis. The Lindens Center is a residential treatment program designed to stabilize and reintegrate children with unique behavioral needs whose challenges significantly impact personal development and family functioning.
The Lindens Center provides a safe, stable, and supportive environment to assist the child in achieving positive behavioral and emotional stability through an array of therapeutic services. Each child supported through the Lindens program will learn the skills needed to successfully reintegrate back to their home and/or school environment or to a less restrictive transitional setting. This program is located on an expansive 80-acre property referred to as The Bancroft Welsh Campus which is also the shared location of two other Bancroft programs (The Bancroft School and The Pediatric and Adolescent Transitional Campus).
This program is licensed by the State of New Jersey, Department of Children and Family Services, Office of Licensing, as a Private Residential Facility (PRF), and is accredited through CARF.
The Lindens Neurobehavioral Program is a nationally recognized residential facility where children are stabilized and prepared to reconnect with family, school and friends.
To create a strength-based, empowering and healing environment, we employ an interdisciplinary team of behavior analysts and neurobehavioral experts experienced in specialized therapies for children who exhibit severe and challenging behaviors such as self-injury, aggression and property destruction.
Our clinical team, in partnership with the child and family, develop individualized plans for care which maximize the potential for sustained positive outcomes. Through Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), clinicians will identify the function of behavior patterns and apply evidence-based interventions which lead to the reduction of adverse behaviors.
Bancroft adheres to the best practice parameters established by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) to foster the integration of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) as well as other proven therapeutic techniques, and the coordination of specialized medical care.
Transdisciplinary Treatment Team
Clinical Associate: Responsible for daily care, child safety, emotional support, and behavior plan implementation. Requirements; 60 Undergraduate credits, thorough understanding of developmental disabilities and behavioral treatment.
Board Certified Behavior Analyst: Responsible for behavioral assessment and treatment plan development. Requirements; Graduate degree from an accredited university, current BCBA credential.
ABA Specialist: Responsible for overseeing treatment plan implementation, assessment, and case management. Requirements; Bachelor’s degree
Occupational Therapist: Responsible for OT assessment upon admission with continued consultation as outlined in the treatment plan. Requirement; Graduate degree from an accredited university, current OTR credential
Speech Therapist: Responsible for a speech and language assessment upon admission with continued consultation as outlined in the treatment plan. Requirement; Graduate degree from an accredited university, current SLP credential
Art Therapist: Responsible for group and individual art therapy sessions. Requirement; Graduate degree from an accredited university, current ATCB credential
Music Therapist: Responsible for group and individual music therapy sessions. Requirement; Graduate degree from an accredited university, current MT-BC credential
Social Worker: Responsible for case management and connecting the family with community supports. Requirement; Graduate degree from an accredited university, current LSW/LCSW credential
Nurse Practitioner: Responsible for medication management and general medical care. Requirement; APN credential with active New Jersey license.
Nurse: Responsible for general medical care, first aid, and medication administration. Requirement; RN/LPN credential with active New Jersey license.
Goals often include the Educational Pathway developed to help children reintegrate into the school setting. With four dedicated Lindens teachers this pathway can include:
- 2-hour homebound schooling
- School time in administrative building
- Group sessions
- Upon admission acceptance and screening into The Bancroft School:
- ½ day at The Bancroft School
- Full Day at The Bancroft School

All children supported at The Lindens receive allied therapies including Art, Music, Social Skills, Occupational Therapy, Psychotherapy, and Speech Groups to reinforce the development of new skills and incorporating each therapy into their daily lives.
Residential Program Options
As children in The Lindens overcome their behavioral challenges, skill acquisition goals are implemented to enhance activities of daily living and functional skills such as personal care, social interactions, communication, and academic and vocational abilities. The goal is always integration into family life and school.
Residential programs encourage increased independence including Bancroft’s Campus Residences or Community Residences or to return to their family home. In fact, 98% of children discharged from The Lindens move to more independent settings including back home with family or to supported living environments like Bancroft Campus Residences.

Admission into The Lindens Residences
The Lindens accepts children and adolescents ages 5 to 21 with autism, intellectual or developmental disabilities who exhibit frequent, intense self-injury, aggression, property destruction and other challenging behaviors.
Requests for services are received from a variety of sources including in-state and out of state families, school districts and public funding sources. You can contact our admissions department to discuss your loved one’s needs and begin the referral process. An Admission Specialist will assist in identifying resources available and discuss funding options. You may be asked to provide pertinent medical, psychiatric and educational records to determine clinical appropriateness. Based upon a records review, an in-person screening and program tour may be scheduled.
