The newly established Disability Mortality and Abuse Prevention Advisory Committee is aimed at strengthening protections and improving outcomes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Cherry Hill, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Human Services recently announced the appointment of members to its newly established Disability Mortality and Abuse Prevention Advisory Committee (the “Advisory Committee”), a key initiative aimed at strengthening protections and improving outcomes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
The Advisory Committee, which consists of 13 members including individuals with lived experience, family members, medical professionals, advocates, and representatives from state agencies, will conduct in-depth reviews of selected cases involving abuse, neglect, exploitation, or mortality of adults with IDD. Through this work, the Advisory Committee will identify trends, assess systemic responses, and recommend actionable improvements to prevention strategies, reporting processes, and accountability measures.
“I’m honored for the opportunity to support this work, strengthening protections where it matters most, and I’m thankful to Commissioner Cha and Deputy Commissioner McGuire for the invitation to serve. This work isn’t easy, but it’s necessary, and it matters that the right people are at the table,” said Bancroft Senior Director of Risk & Compliance Shanay Rowe, Ed.D.
