Nicole O’Neal, Bancroft’s Senior Vice President of Adult Residential Services, has written an article for Autism Spectrum News entitled “The Power of Person-Centered Planning in Supporting Autistic Adults.”

In it, O’Neal describes the benefits of person-centered planning and outlines the four key pillars behind the strategy: understanding, advocating, belonging and communication.  Additionally, she outlines the risks when providers and caregivers fail to employ person-centered planning calling it more than a missed opportunity, but a significant risk.

“Person-centered planning is more than just a tool for working with adults with autism—it’s a necessity,” says O’Neal. “By placing the individual at the center of their care, caregivers ensure that their voice is heard and respected. It fosters self-advocacy, creates environments of belonging, and unlocks the potential for growth and independence.”
